New Project!

Sorry I haven't posted in like forever, but I will be posting more often now.

I'm starting my next mini project on Saturday.

It's The Fascination Station. The pic is from Hobby Builder's Supply.

I'm going to make it into a converted garage to rock club.

I'd like some suggestions on names.

It will have a lot of automobile themes included in the decor.

Maybe even some tools on the walls.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

and I will send a gift to you if I choose your suggestion!

Rockers for Knockers 2011

The benefit hosted by my hubby's band was a huge success.

It was on Saturday 9/10/11.

We were nervous as heck and all of us worked til we were dead tired,

but thankfully, we pulled it off without a hitch.

I took today off work as I am still recuperating. lol

I donated a little dollhouse I made to the silent auction.

A bass player from one of the bands got it for his little girl.

She had been playing with it all day, and needless to say,
dad will have to repair a couple of unhinged doors and such.

I also sold some jewelry. Made my money back. That was about it.

The little polymer clay bracelets were the favorite I think.

I didn't make them. I got them from Fire Mountain Gems.

This event came upon me so quickly, I only had time to make a few pieces.

I did sell one necklace and earrings set that I made.

We had a photographer, Barry Dolton from Houston,

come out to take pictures of my son's and hubby's bands.

He's a amazing photographer, very artistic, and captured some awesome shots.

My son is on guitar.

So, hopefully, now that this benefit is mostly behind us, although it will be somewhat ongoing,
I can get back to focusing on minis and beads.

I'm Back!

This is the little orchid and the water color painting I got from Kathi at Beautiful Mini Blessings.

I framed the water color and made a little shelf

I added some beachy items to the shelf and installed the light fixture to the top floor of the build along project. I don't really like it as a store, so I'm changing it up a bit. I also got the copper desk lamp from HBS. I just love the battery operated lights.

I got the bench from HBS also, but am disappointed in it.

One leg is too short so I'm going to have to add a little dowel piece to it.

Not sure if you can see it in the picture, but the left leg doesn't hit the floor.

I got this from HBS also.

I think it's adorable.

I played with my toys today!

But I also did some work, too!

I was short about a dozen shingles though!

Gonna have to order another bag!

Here's the doll mold I got from Mel at Mel's Miniatures.

I don't have a clue about where to begin on making a doll!

I want to try it, but haven't worked up the courage yet!

I got a little fridge from HBS, too.

I intend to use it in Poppy Lane, but it's here for now.

It has little shelves and drawers to fill,

I got some wine bottles and added labels.

Not sure what the labels are or if they are even wine labels!

I got the Chrysnbon drop leaf table and chairs and promptly painted them of course.

I think I may change it and do one side dropped.

If I don't tear it up trying.

Sorry I haven't posted much lately, but I fully intend to post more in the future.

Billy's band is going quite well, so while they were practicing today was when I played with minis.

They had their first gig on Friday night and it went great.

They already have another one on the books for the 19th.

They were a little nervous I think, but all went well and it was a great show.

I've Been Busy!

I can't believe it's been a whole month since I last posted! Sorry for that!

Work has been extra stressful lately. We're all on edge at work

Kinda wondering if it's all gonna just implode!

But the good news is Billy's Band is doing wonderful and they are doing wonderful things, too.

They are hosting a breast cancer benefit on September 10th!

This is gonna be big!

We heard back from The American Cancer Society yesterday and they have accepted our application!

I'm so happy! They do so much good for the people they help!

We want to do this same event for years to come. Now I think we can and will!

Thank you to all my new followers! I appreciate each and every one of you.

And I have been working on some minis and soon will be mailing out my Pay It Forward gifts.

I also received the little doll mold I won from Mel at Mel's Miniatures.

I took a pic, but it didn't turn out well, so will take some more in a day or two.

I had a horrible day at work and was so excited when I got home!

The little package came all the way from Israel and was waiting for me just to lift my spirits!

The little shells are from the Sea of Galilee, the purse is just to die for.

I am fashioning a sewing basket just for the knitting set.

I definitely want to do a beach cottage now.

Build Along Progress

I got some mini time in today because I did something to my back and couldn't make it to work.

I just turned the wrong way and blam! it got me! I don't like it at all as I usually have a very strong back.

I truly feel for anyone who has ever had back problems.

So I stayed home with the heating pad and it really is much better now.

I was going to do a candy shop, but it's turned more into a, well, just a shop. lol

I had so many little treats I just had to use them.

They both have awesome blogs, and if you're not following them, you really should.

She also does the most intricate cross stitch I have ever seen!

The fruit slices I ordered from Angie Scarr.

I was going to try to make some myself, but no way could I have come close to hers.

Worth every cent.

I made most everything else, except the furniture and the cash register which I got from HBS, http://www.miniatures.com/, my favorite mini store of all time.

I made Shepherd's Call from a printie and I refurbished the clock a while back.

I made the shelf using pegs from one of those bath massage thingies.

The flowers and lights came from HBS. I painted the pot.

Hubby's New Band

I've taken a small break from minis to create the new website for my hubby's new band.

I'm so privledged to have these talented musicians in my home every Sunday afternoon.

I don't have any music to share just yet as they are still in the writing process,

but I can tell you this is the best band Billy's ever been in.

They are just some amazing guys!

And he is totally happy, which makes me totally happy!

Luckily I love almost all genres of music from classical to heavy metal.

You should see the list of songs on my Ipod!

The name of the band is Torrid Complex.

They play what I call alternative heavy metal rock.

A torrid complex is a very hot star, so I think they chose a perfect name.

I Got Some Lovely Minis!

I received three awesome packages this week!

Victoria from Dark Squirrel's Miniature Asylum sent me the little bag full of wonders.

It was beautifully tied with a lovely green ribbon, but in my haste I didn't think to take a picture before opening it!

I signed up for Petit Connoisseurs newsletter and won a lovely gift, too!

It also came beautifully packaged!

My picture taking is horribly lacking, and

unfortunately I just can't capture these bottles from Victoria well enough!

They are simply gorgeous!

I have totally decided to go a whole other route on The McKinley that will be my next project.

I'm thinking witch, but not the Harry Potter kind.

Much more like a Marie Laveau type Louisiana mansion!

They even have gorgeous jewels on the backs!

I like how I managed to get a reflection in the mirror.

Along with those bottles, Victoria also sent these tiny pretty pink ones!

The two smallest ones are sooooo tiny!

I just love them all!

The details are amazing which of course I couldn't capture well enough.

I have many new followers that I'd like to welcome.

Tomorrow I'll try to post everyone, but Blogger (or my computer) is not being a team player this evening.

It's taking me forever to go through everything.

So, for now, please allow me to thank you so much for following my little blog!

I appreciate each and every one of you!

And now for an update on the build along:

I'm almost completely finished! I didn't like the porch that came with the kit, so I bashed it, of course!

I used the same roofing piece, cut it in half and trimmed it down. I like this one much better.

I only have the roofs to finish and some touchup painting, then on to the inside!

I ordered some things from HBS that should arrive next week, shelving, etc.

So I guess I'll be busy making candies from poly clay until then!

Haven't gotten out the clay in a while. Probably pretty rusty lol.

Hubby asked me, "How do you get to the top floor?"

I said, "You teleport of course. Duh."

I thought about adding stairs, but I just don't think there's enough room in this kit for them.

Plus I want lots of room for candy!

I have all those shingles leftover from Poppy Lane. Well, I fully intended to use them here.

But, I got them out and after sanding and trimming about 50 of them, I said forget this!

Not sure how I'm going to do this roof yet.

The porch roof I've got figured out and will post a new pic shortly.

I Managed to Get Some Mini Time Today!

This is what I bought yesterday at a stall at my son's concert.

It's pretty tiny and will be perfect on a dollhouse desk.

I made these. The little shelf is for my build along shop and Shepherd's Call will go on the top floor.

I'm not sure why I made the little stool and basket. Just cause I guess.

I toned the bright floor down a bit. I sanded it a little but that was after I took this picture.

I like it much better now.

This is a chair for the vanity that is going in the bedroom in Poppy Lane.

Still working on the vanity.

Got the door installed in the build along.

Glued down the "cobblestone" porch floor.

Finished the attic and the second floor! Woo Hoo! I actually finished something!

All I have left of the interior is the first floor wallpaper and a few pieces of trim.

Well, it's really past my bedtime. It's almost 1 a.m. here and I have to work tomorrow!

Just wanted to get these pictures posted.

My oldest son Josh's band is playing their first venue today! Yay!

We're all going to see them and then go to dinner so I don't have much time right now.

I don't know if you can see it, but the top board (the attic floor)

is very slightly warped so I had to shim it a little.

I greenwashed the bottom floor, but I am not happy with the color at all.

Just a little too bright. So later I'm going to tone it down a bit.

I like the second floor pretty well. It is finished as far as wallpaper and trim.

That's going be an office I think.

Build Along

I am participating in Real Good Toys Build Along on Facebook.

It's just a build along, no competition, so no rushing or pressure.

Which is great for me! No pressure!

This little kit hangs on the wall like The McKinley that will be my next build.

I still need to add the wallpaper border to the upstairs left wall.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but the bottom wallpaper is a shade of green and matches the door and window really well. I haven't worked on it until today, so I think I got a lot accomplished so far.

The door I picked was a tad short so I made a little welcome sign to cover the hole.

Inside will be a Home Sweet Home sign.

I haven't decided what this little kit will become. I'm leaning towards a bakery, but I might do a quilt shop.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I know the upstairs room will be an office.

I chose green for the outside because my kitchen is a pretty yellow and I'm going to make space on the wall somewhere to hang it. I thought the yellow and green would match well.

I finished painting the bed for Poppy Lane, but I still want to dress it so I'm not showing it yet!

Armoire and a New Bathroom Set!

I finished updating the little armoire.

I overworked the blue a little, but I like how it turned out.

I wallpapered the inside with little blue hearts wallpaper, but you can't see it in the picture.

I also took out the bottom shelf and added a hanging rod.

Then I started painting the windows and doors for the RGT Build Along that starts on Tuesday.

This door is a tad short for the opening, but I think I have a fix for that. If what I want to do won't work, I'm going to have to order another door! Guess I'll use this one somewhere else.

I got this lovely bathroom set from Collections Etc.

I will be using it in The McKinley which I hope to start one of these days!

I also planted my mini plants, but I lost the light so that picture will have to wait for tomorrow.

I ordered some outdoor minis for the garden, too! Early birthday present to me:~)

Side Project

Got my plants for a new little side project

that won't take much initial work,

but some upkeep and will hopefullly last for a very long time!

I ordered them from Two Green Thumbs.

The little plants arrived wonderfully well and full of life.

Still quite damp and won't need any watering this evening.

It'll be this weekend before I can find the right pot for them.

I have some nice pots, but none will do for this little adventure.

I want a nice big ceramic pot.

So I'll have to do some shopping.

I will have to hide them away tonight

as I have a Big Black Cat that is notorious for chewing up plants.

I don't have a single indoor plant because of her.

She doesn't like Little Blue Cats very well either. . .

Itsy Bitsy Furniture

Well, I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but I've decided I just don't like 1/4 scale!

Hats off to everyone that has conquered it! You go people!

I've been painting teeny itsy bitsy furniture all weekend and it just doesn't fit right.

I'm going to put this all away and save it for a rainy day!

My true love is 1:12 scale which I am coming back to!

I added a tiny printie of an electric switch near the front door.

And I finished the top trim on Poppy Lane. Still have a little more trim to add, but I'm totally happy here with how far I've gotten! Going to finsh Poppy Lane and then I have a Build-A-Long with RGT. It hangs on the wall, not The McKinley, but a smaller kit. Two rooms I think, and a small attic.

Let's see how that goes. . .

Poppy Lane Roof

I finally got the roof on and most of the trim!

I ran out of trim, so now I'm waiting for my order from HBS to arrive.

The front porch light finally got glued back on as it kept falling off.

The front door is still just stuck in there. Not sure if I want to hinge it or not. I think I will though.

I'm really ready to be finished with this so I can start on the inside.

I still have the McKinley waiting to be done and a new surprise project. More about that later. :~)

As for my own house in miniature, well the design process is taking forever. lol.

Not sure what will happen with that.

Well, time is getting away from me this morning.

If I don't get busy, I'm going to be late for work! Yesterday I got a raise, so it might not be a good idea to be late today. Especially since hardly any raises are being given these days!

Mom's New Quilt

I have been cleaning house, working on minis, cleaning some more house, working on some more minis. Haven't taken pics yet, but will post later today or tomorrow.

But my mom finally got her quilt pic uploaded on FB.

It's so gorgeous, I just had to show you immediately as soon as I saw it!

Plus there's the added bonus that she included herself in the photo!

She's so talented and I am very privledged to own some of her beautiful quilts myself!

More Progress

Ok, well, from reading comments, I have decided not to spraypaint the roof on Poppy Lane white, but instead to leave it grey. I don't have it glued down yet, but hoping to finish that later today. In the meantime, I've been working on the little church and the little Poppy Lane. There's also another little house in the set that I may want to try to turn into a little playhouse for the yard at Poppy Lane. Will 1/4" scale work for that do you think? I'm thinking it may, but not sure yet.

I decided 6 pews were too much for the little church, plus two of them warped when I painted them. So I tossed 'em.

I made little hymnals, but didn't think to try to photograph them. I'll try later, but they're so tiny, they might not show up! lol

I like the roof and I have a bell to add to the steeple.

For the stained glass windows, I used frosted clear labels to cover the plastic, then the highlighter ink stuck just fine. I used a black permanent marker for the lead.

I wasn't very good at it so I left the round windows alone.

Jordan reached his hand out as I was taking one pic. At first I was kinda ticked off at him, but once I downloaded the pics, I think it came out really cool. Kinda spooky! You can see the house through his hand!

I finished the roof, but haven't painted it yet. Not sure if I'll trim it anymore.

I replaced the bottom floor trim. (Still need to touch up the paint) And I added trim to the upstairs.

Justin just got back from Fort Carson, Colorado, after a military excursion.

He brought me back this coffee cup. He also got some really cool videos of Special Forces and some low flybys. Hopefully, he'll let me post some, but I have to get permission first and he's at work.

The Roof

Got the roof pieces cut and dry fitted. I don't think the wooden trim I have for it will work now. So I won't finish today as I'm going to have to get some different trim.

On to the spraypainting!

But first I need to change out of my jammies. lol.

It is supposed to rain today after all, so hopefully after the sun comes up I will be able to spraypaint before it starts. I want to finish the house today! I'm bound and determined!

We might have company over today, too, so I will get to here some live music! That's always a treat.

Billy has left the latest band, so now he's on the search for a new one.

I'm off to work in a few minutes, so I just wanted to pop in here to say HELLO to all my followers.

I am looking forward to the next three days off work, so I intend to welcome new followers including links this evening or tomorrow.

I have some new work to show on my 1/4 scale pieces and the weather is supposed to be good (We got to almost 70 yesterday with sunny skies), so I should be able to spraypaint the roof for Poppy Lane.

Hopefully I can get it installed and I will be almost completely finished with the building structure!

I've started on the Church and the Carriage House. I made one little pew so far. I need to make five more at least. Does the scale look OK? I'm no good at 1/4". Plus these houses are not meant to include furniture. Only lights for a Sweet Little Christmas Village.

I think the pew is a good size for the project. I measured & everything.

I think I have enough room to make 3 rows of these.

Progress On The 1/4 House

I'm almost finished. I added the front door, the porch roof and started the shingles. Elissa likes it very much.

I painted the ceiling on the top floor. Still need to add some trim to the edges. I put some carpet and trim on the bottom floor. I don't like the trim much. Think I'll change it to wood.

I made some tiny furniture. That is totally not for me. I think I will take Drora's advice and buy some!

I also got some Angie Scarr fruit and leaf slices in 1/12 scale. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet!

New 1/4 Inch Scale House

HBS had a 25% off sale so I got this little Greenleaf Village. I chose this one because it has a little Arthur. I bashed it a little of course. I left the back off and added a second floor.

I still have a little work to do on it and I want to add a wall on the bottom floor. I think I'll leave the top floor open. I plan on making this more turn of the century with no real plumbing fixtures or electricity.

I need to finish the bottom floor. I chose to paint this one, but I think the next one I will paper as I go along. I did use a printie for the floors so far. The house was not meant to be seen inside, so not enough window trim was included. I had a few extra since I didn't use the back, but I'll have to cut some for five more windows.

I've been wanting to finish the roof on Poppy Lane, but it's been wet and rainy forever and I have to spraypaint it outside, so that's been put off until the weather is better.

It's supposed to be our coldest day so far today. Won't get above forty and it's in the 20's now. With temps like that I just wish it would snow. But that probably isn't going to happen and we'll just continue with our sloppy sludgey mess outside.

To all my friends in Australia, please be safe. Growing up near thr rivers in Missouri, I've seen my share of flooding. Although I never had to contend with a wall of water that wiped out whole towns. The town I'm from is on a hill and I don't remember how many times it became an island, but remained above water.

So please try to stay safe and I hope the rains end soon.

Soooo sorry I haven't posted for two weeks! Isn't that awful???!!!

We were just too busy with Christmas, which was wonderful.

Billy got me (well I think he got it for him and just wrapped it and put my name on it, lol) a Blu Ray player!!!

It's so amazing how HD TV is. I didn't realize it at all until I saw it for myself.

Now I wish we'd gotten a bigger TV!

I received Rosanna's wonderful giveaway prize. I had one heck of a time taking the pics. It's just so tiny and wonderful. I just love it, Rosanna. PLUS!!! She sent some teeny weeny Christmas cookies and a little Santa that I just totally adore!

A Wonderful Surprise!

I came home from an unusually boring day at work to find a wonderful surprise had been delivered by the postman! Ewa, The Old Maid from The Sunny Hours 1:12 miniatures sent me this lovely package. It was filled to the brim with the sweetest little things.

I adore this little wedding cake. It's absolutely fabulous!

The cushions are sooooo gorgeous!

She even sent some tiny sheet music!

Now what would've made her think of that??!!!!

The ornaments I just adore!

I want to use the "Thank You" in a shop I have been thinking about putting together.

Of course I'm still working on recreating my own house in miniature. I will post some of that later. No real work being done, but I'm planning, so at least that's a start.

My favorite is the little doll Ewa sent. I just love her to pieces.

I have already named her Elissa and she is sitting on my desk as I type.

I've decided that Elissa and Little Sleeping Poppy will be my blog mascots so you will see her often.

Family Day With The Army Unit

We had a good day at the Army Reserve Unit today.

Billy got his picture taken by an Apache. This is an old one they have out of service.

They don't let you get too close to the one's in use.

Justin and Jordan didn't bring jackets and it got a bit chilly.

The band was wonderful. Lots of beautiful Christmas music. As yet I don't have a good video recorder that gets good audio, so my vids didn't turn out well. Billy has been shopping online for one and I think we've found it! I'll let you know how that turns out.

Not your typical Christmas dinner, but the burgers were great and were served with these really huge buns.

Haven't had much time for minis today. Hoping to get back on that tomorrow.

I Finally Made Some New Minis!

Well, I finally had time today to put together a Chrysnbon Kit I got.

Let me tell you that stove was not that easy to put together. I ruined the decal for the mat, but I managed not to destroy the one on the chair. I tried to photograph it in the little living room, but the light was no good, so used the bathroom instead!

I painted a couple of pieces of furniture I had. Still have to print a face for the clock.

And I bought a little Christmas tree to decorate! I have some decorations made, but not enough, so I'm going to be making mini decorations today!

I also added some more birdhouses. I just can't seem to stop making them!

Justin brought his new (lightly used) car home yesterday. It's really nice. The best one in the family now!

Mom definitely needs a new car!

Leather seats! This car was taken very great care of by the previous owner.

Billy and I had a great time last Friday at his latest venue.

He had plenty of beer. lol

Billy and I had a cook off tonight! I made Hot & Sour Soup and he made Great Northern Beans with Sausage. Not sure what all he put in his but my recipe will follow! The Hot & Sour soup is only half way done in the picture. Have to add the eggs and thickening.

Here's the Recipe:

Lainie’s Hot & Sour Soup

(4) 14 oz. cans Chicken broth

(1) 14 oz cans Beef broth

(4) boneless chicken breast halves

(1) 8 oz. can bamboo shoots

(1) 8 oz. can sliced water chestnuts

(1) 12 oz. can baby corn (cut into pieces)

(1) 8 oz. can sliced mushrooms

1 head broccoli chopped

1 cup snow pea pods (whole or chopped)

(6) eggs

Soy sauce to taste

Cayenne pepper to taste

1 tablespoon chopped garlic

2-3 tablespoon flour or cornstarch to thicken

Cook chicken breasts in 6 cups of water til no longer pink. Remove from water (now broth) and cut into bite sized pieces. Strain the broth from the cooked chicken into a large Dutch oven. Add the chicken pieces. Add the additional cans of broth.

Drain the cans of vegetables & mushrooms discarding the juice and add the vegetables & mushrooms to the pan. Add soy sauce, cayenne, & garlic.

Simmer on medium for 30 minutes. Add the chopped broccoli and snow peas. Simmer another 20 minutes.

Now whisk the eggs in a large measuring cup with a spout (or use a funnel). Be sure the soup is not boiling! This is very important! Slowly drizzle eggs into the pan. DO NOT STIR FOR 20 MINUTES!

Turn heat to low. (If you have an electric stove wait 5 minutes for the heat to become low.)

Mix flour or corn starch with a small amount of water until it is just pourable. Slowly stir into soup. Let sit on low until thickened.

Soup is ready! Serve over rice. Sprinkle chopped chives or green onions on top and enjoy!

I left out the mushrooms cause we don't like them and couldn't find snow peas at the market!

I haven't finished Poppy Lane yet and I will still be working on her, but my son, Jordan, has issued a Dare!!!! What's up with that???? I wanna work on The McKinley Dagnabit!!!

He wants me to recreate our house in 1:12 scale.

I'm gonna do it!!! (I don't really have a choice or these guys would never let me live it down!!!)

I'm working with my House Beautiful program to get the scale correct. Will post some pics soon.

I was so excited to win in Cia's giveaway. I received my package right away, but only just had time to post it. Sorry for taking so long to post, Cia, but we have had some life issues at our house recently. I love the tags and the little Christmas Cards. Thank you so much!

I joined Marsha's Christmas Ornament Swap. My Very First Swap! I should remember that this time of year I always get sick for a week and the package got mailed late. Marlene has yet to receive hers. . .But it is well on it's way and she should receive it soon.

I received mine a week ago or so. I was waiting for her to get mine to post, but through recent emails decided to post her package this evening.

I even loved the box she sent it in. Jo Malone of London! How cool is that! Marlene you rock!

The tiny detail on the cross stitched ornament is amazing. I wish the pictures could do it justice. It's just lovely.
The gold and holly ball is totally gorgeous and soft.
The ornaments I did for her I felt were too "hard' or cold if you can imagine. I hope she likes them, because I was not happy with them. I think I could've done better. I hope she's not too disappointed when she finally gets mine.
The little knitted holly ball, I just totally adore. I can't knit to save my life. It's so beautiful and her stitches are perfect!
Plus, she sent some extra little minis things that I just love! I am extremely pleased with my swap items, Marlene!

My Grandpa Mac McKenzie was in the Army Air Corps in the 1940's. I remember he died in 1977. I was a small child. I loved him with all my heart. He was just a sweet person to everyone. Plus I remember he loved me. He did truly love me. I remember that I have never heard my father cry so hard as the day he died.

When I woke up this morning, my throat was so sore I could hardly swallow. Nose is sore. Just had way too much festivities this weekend. The place where Billy's band played Saturday night was really chilly and they had big fans running non-stop.

So when I found out I won, it really made my day. To top that off, I received the little luggage pieces I won in Chris P's giveaway, too!

The luggage is outstanding and I love the texture!

My mini family is all ready for their mini vacation!

Happy Halloween!

We had a great time last night at the Halloween Bash. Billy loved playing with his new band and they loved him as well, so he's officially a member of Too Bad Mice now. The place was packed and everyone there loved the band. I meant to have a friend take a picture of Billy and me, but I was having such a good time, I totally forgot about it. I'll get one this Friday. I wasn't dressed in a costume or anything anyway.

I would've taken lots more pictures, but I wasted my camera batteries on taking videos and the sound on them turned out horrible. I will be getting a digital camcorder hopefully by the next gig which is November 5th. Not sure if it will fit into my budget this week yet though.

Driving home at 3:00 am was a little strange since I haven't been up that late in like forever! lol. But there is way less traffic that time of the night.

This is my oldest son, Josh, and his girlfriend, Daina, heading to their party. They stopped by to show us their costumes. He is pretty scary! I think they did a really good on his makeup.

Justin just had to do a pentagram where he was passing out candy.

Jordan carved the pumpkin. We waited too late to buy one, and this was the biggest one I could find, and it wasn't orange. But it turned out pretty cool.

Here it is on my collander! They needed a stand for it. lol

We didn't have nearly as many trick or treaters as usual. I think since it was on a Sunday night a lot of people had parties on Saturday instead. Well, there's always next year!

This month has been the busiest ever! I hardly made any minis!

I did get two of my promised packages mailed and the other three will be on their way tomorrow.

I joined Marsha's Christmas ornament swap and that MUST go out tomorrow. I'l also be emailing her the pictures of them to put on her virtual tree. Nothing like waiting until the last minute!

I'm looking forward to winding down a bit.

Texas Tornado!

We were 15 minutes behind the storm chasers on I-45. Thankfully! The school was in pretty bad shape.

A lot of the roof was torn off and the football field was devastated.

Luckily it was Sunday and the school was closed.

This tractor trailer was in exact line with the school.

The tornado hit the school then hit the truck and flipped it.

The driver had only minor injuries.

Six Flags and A Tornado!

We had a blast at Six Flags Over Texas!
My legs are hurting again. This ole lady just can't take it.
The boys said it was the best time ever and that made us pretty pleased!

We got rained in at the hotel until around 4:30 and decided to just go.

It turned into a great idea. The park was wet, but the rain was done.

The twins are pretty happy here. They just rode Batman for the first time! They actually rode it four times before the evening ended!

There were hardly any lines the first night because of all the rain. The boys also got to ride Rock-N-Rocket

and Tony Hawk's The Big Spin I think it's called. I have some cool pics of that, too.

I just thought that was awesome and just had to ride it! I believe he also worked on Texas Giant, too, but it was closed. I'm not too sure that I will EVER ride that one though! It's pretty scary!

We were 15 minutes behind him on I-45 South.

If the boys wouldn't have wanted to ride Judge Roy Scream,

we would've been right in the middle of a very bad Texas Tornado.

Aren't You Proud of Me??

I finished the siding! Unless I decide to do the rest of the front, which I'm thinking I need to. . .

Now onto the painting. Hobby Lobby didn't have the Hydrangea Blue that I love, so I settled for Light Blue. I will have to repaint all the blue, but I'm happy with the colors I've chosen.

The roof should be fairly easy to finish as I have purchased some plastic sheeting from HBS that will look like a metal roof. We have this on our RL house. I have already cut the pattern pieces. I will use enamel spraypaint on it. It came in gray.

I have no idea who will end up with this little house if I decide to part with it. Hope they like the way I designed it. I love bashing houses, but I'd really hate to see that happen to this one. lol.

I only have a few pieces of trim and edging to add. And I need to finish the front porch.

I have a board that a friend at work cut for me so I can do some landscaping. Already have lots of ideas for that.

I'm going to have to make some room to do that because I'm itching to start on the McKinley that will be MINE! For my very own wall and to display my minis!

I won't have time for minis this weekend as we are taking the twins to Six Flags! I have reserved the rental car, and the boys are excited about riding every roller coaster there. The weather is supposed to be nice, so hopefully, we haven't chosen the wrong time of year to go! Plus as an added bonus, it's Fright Fest! I should have some great pics to post when we get back.

Little Pumpkin

I remember one Halloween when I was pressed for time. Couldn't get the kid's dad to carve the pumpkin. I was going to get a big marker and just draw on a face, but the boys were begging for it to be carved so mom got to work. Well, I decided to do an alien face on the pumpkin. The hardest part would be the eyes, which I cut out almost all the way so the candle could shine through. Two little holes for the nose, a slit for a mouth. Lit the candle. That was it! I was done! We always stayed to pass out the first candy for a while before we did our trick or treating. Then the kid's dad would give out some more while we were away. Our neighborhood was great. People came from all over.

Well, I soon regretted what I did. ALL the KIDS (and I mean all of them!) were simply scared to death of my pumpkin! Hardly any of them would come up to the house! I was having to take candy out to the street! I finally blew out the candle and covered the pumpkin when one little boy screamed in fear of his life. I was mortified. The boys kinda thought it was cool because Halloween is "supposed to be scary like that!"

I still do not know why the little ones were so afraid of my pumpkin. It has baffled me for years.

True story!!! I wish I had a picture of that pumpkin, but can't find one at the moment. I lost a lot of pictures when I went through my divorce.

Well, I guess it was just kids being scared. That being said, I made the same pumpkin out of polymer clay. It's slightly different as I didn't make it hollow. I did the eyes black.

Since we're all adults here (mostly) I thought I post a pic of it.

I don't find it all that scary. Maybe in the right setting. And I guess with the chalk drawing of a murder victim (complete with blood. lol) on the driveway that the kids actually had to walk over, well I guess it could be a little frightening. (The chalk drawing was totally my boys' idea)

Here's the magic wand I got from Lorraine. The wand is exquisite and the box is so tiny, I just realized I have it upside down! Shows how bad my eyes are. lol

I haven't worn it yet, Joan, as it is still a little warm here. We've havd a couple of cool mornings, but by 9 am it's already warming up. The scarf is just lovely and I can't wait to try it out.

Texas Renaissance Festival

We went to the Renaissance Festival yesterday. It was beautiful weather. Not a cloud in the sky. Just a little hot though. Here's some pictures I thought you might enjoy.

This is the only thing I bought for myself. Horrible picture, but it's a wonderful little sword about 5 inches long. There really weren't any mini shops.

Billy and Justin taking a much needed break. We walked a LONG way! My legs are sooo sore!

I have one of the giveaways all packaged and ready to send tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get two of them sent, but I need to locate some boxes or buy them at the post office.

I've been working on Marsha's Christmas ornament swap and have finished my ornaments. I wasn't totally happy with the first one, so I made two.

Ok well dinner plans changed. Josh had someone coming over so we're going to dinner tomorrow instead. Really had my heart set on fajitas today, but I guess I can wait one more day. So the twins and I went down the road to Subway. They have the five dollar footlongs on Sunday so I have lunch for tomorrow, too.

So the names have been drawn. I cut them all out, put them in one of my little Longaberger baskets, and shook them all up. Well that wasn't good enough for Billy. He had to shake them all up again. "You gotta make sure you mix them all up right," he told me. Guess I wasn't doing it right.

Then he shook the names all up again! I said,"Just draw three more names, Billy." "No I want to give everyone the same chance," he told me. He was really looking out for everyone.

Hooray!

I want to mention the trapped miners in Chile today. The hole was finally made and hopefully they will come out on Wednesday. It's just amazing they have survived so long underground like that. I can't imagine what it must be like for their families.

And another Hooray for the drawing! The day is finally here.

I'm not sure why, but I made a critter cage. I just saw one on someone's blog and remembered my dear friend Sherri when we were young. She always had rabbits in a cage out behind her house. I would go with her to feed and water them. Her mother passed away this week and I was thinking of her.

And I made some more little water jugs. I just love to make these.

And for Rachel, I finally got a couple of pictures of camera shy Snickers. You can see in the second picture she was yelling at me to get the camera out of her face.

A Giveaway From Vilia Miniature

Here it the Grandt Line Kit I ordered a while back. I took the pattern to work and made several copies which was a good thing since I had to use the pattern several times.

I had planned to show you each step, but making this little house was sooo nerve wrecking, I just didn't get the camera back out. The kit is styrene. It came with 2 siding sheets, (one of which I have leftover), a base and flooring piece and the roofing piece. I had to lay out the pattern and mark it, measure it, and cut it out all by myself. None of it was precut. Well, that might be just fine for the experience modeler, but I didn't like making this little house one bit.

And I don't like modeling glue, but since this kit it plastic and they recommended that it be used. I got glue everywhere. I had to varnish the entire house when I was finished, just to hide the glue stains. Which is why it is so shiny in the pictures.

It took me all day long yesterday to finish. I'm talking the full eight hours!

I wouldn't recommend this kit to you unless you like starting things entirely from scratch. The next one I get will have to be precut for sure.

I used printies for the wallpaper and ceilings and floors. I thought the paper that came with the kit was hideous.

All that being said, I really like how it came out in the end. I want to do some landscaping and make some tiny furnishings for it. I made a few more things little by little last week.

I am bound and determined to finish the siding on my 1:12 house today!

I planned on welcoming new followers individually, but this little house has me plumb tuckered out! I promise to do it one day this week.

Some Things I Made

I've been busy this weekend. I made myself some birdhouses and a couple of baskets. I got busy with my Bindels ornaments and made some candy dishes. Hope to fill them up soon. I made a little hanging lamp. I think I'll add some chain to it.

I found a lovely site with fruit crate labels which inspired me to do some crates.

I even made some things I'm totally new at. I've been admiring things on everyone else's blogs. With all the witchy stuff coming around for Halloween I made two magic wands. The septre was my idea due to the fact that I have these lovely Swarovski crystals. I searched some RL sites and found that most magic wands come in velvets bags, but I like the wooden boxes better. And RL magic wands come in all sizes. This one is about an inch and a half long. The sceptre is a little longer.

The one below is my favorite. I took some thread and wrapped it around then added some tiny polymer clay leaves. The picture doesn't do it justice.

A Question? And Some Help Please!!!

I know you gals & guys can help. I know how to make fruit and veggies canes from polymer clay. I just don't want to have to right now. Someone has got to have a good site that sells them. I'm just no good at searching Etsy. I don't want to have to pay an arm and a leg for them either. I found some sites that sell them for like $8.00 a cane! That's WAY too much! No offense to anyone that is selling them for that much! I just can't afford it! There's got to be some sites out there that sell them for like $3 to $4 a cane. What is the difference between nail canes and raw slices??? Are the nail canes cooked a little or what???

Any help will be appreciated. . .

It Was Like My Birthday Today!

Update on The 100 Posts Giveaway!

Ok, well I've gotten a lot further on getting the giveaways together than I first thought!

All that you see in the picture above will be included in the first drawing.

I didn't glue in the roses, so if whoever wins wants to rearrange that's fine by me. I'm not very good at arranging mini flowers! I've gone with a roses and birdhouse theme on the three giveaways. Not sure why. Just cause.

All that you see in the next picture above will be included in the second giveaway including the little footstool.

I wasn't able to photograph it because I am reupholstery it to match the chair.

The picture below will be the third giveaway. NOT INCLUDING LITTLE SLEEPING POPPY. She's just there to show her approval. And as she is sleeping peacefully, I'd have to say she must approve. lol.

I love the collie picture and intend to make one for myself. My great grandparents had the same litho on their wall for years so it brings back fond memories.

The little birdhouse cannisters don't open. Sorry, but I couldn't get the lids to stay so I had to glue them on.

The rest is just some other things I made this weekend.

More rose pictures and a little waste basket for the bathroom.

I'm pretty pleased with the shelf, although it fell apart when I was painting it so had to do it all over again!

And here's the little kitchen food prep table that I forgot to include in my last post.

Most of these other things were made for the little house that I really need to get back to work on.

Since I'm coming along nicely preparing the giveaways, I will most likely do the drawing earlier than

October 10th!!

I LOVE my new easy cutter!!!

I have been soooo busy on what was Supposed to be a relaxing weekend! But I'm thrilled with my new cutter tool!

I'm not sure why, but I started out with making birdhouses. Chris P said she made a picnic table. I might try to do that next.

I also made a shelf with pegs. The pegs look crooked in this picture, but they are really pretty straight. Check out the next pic.

I got one of those bath massagers at the dollar store in a package that had the soaps and sponges that I like. But not so much the deally with the little wooden pegs. I think half the reason I got it was so I could pull out the pegs and use them for a mini shelf!

I've included the little yellow table in this picture, but it just doesn't fit. I think I'm going to have to sand it down and repaint it because I like it with this group of items.

I made birdhouses of all shapes, but of course forgot to make a template for any of them.

Then I made some printies into little signs. The one on the right is what became of the tutorial on crackle paint. I wanted to cover more, but that would've hidden all the crackling, so I burnt the edges of a printie that I like and there you go!

Poppy just sleeps through all this. She's such a sweet kitty!

Here's almost everything I worked on this weekend.

I also made a kitchen prep table (unprepped but ready)! Forgot to include it in the pics! I will show you in the next post. I'm pretty proud of myself on that one since I actually measured my own table to get the exact height right and did it all from scratch!!!

I made some jello molds out of resin. Well I used candy molds. Just poured them in. Fix it and forget it. Oh no way. Those things are almost impossible to remove from candy molds. I got a couple of them out but totally destroyed the molds in the process. Oh well, thankfully they were inexpensive and I've learned a lesson!

Sadly I didn't work on the little house one bit. I have templates cut out of paper for the roof just waiting for me. I swore I was going to finish the siding and put on the roof. But I got a reprieve on the roof when we had a thunderstorm. Lol. Can't spraypaint in the rain. Woo Hoo! Whipped out the easy cutter again!

Crackled Paint & Crab Legs

I promised a tutorial on how I do crackle paint. Most of you probably already know this method, but for those of you who don't here it is. I apologize that the pictures are blurry. Don't know why they came out so bad, but I think they'll be OK enough to get the picture. lol

First I chose a dark green for the background. You can use a light color if you want, but the colors need to be contrasting.

Then let that dry all the way. Next I take Elmers Glue-All and paint it on the surface. This one is really blurry. Yikes!

Then allow the glue to dry only a little bit. Not all the way. Just until it becomes tacky.

The more it dries the less effect you will get. Depending on what you like. Then paint the contrasting color lightly. Don't press the brush down too hard. As the paint dries, it will reveal the crackle effect.

I had to darken the next picture since they all came out so bad so you could see the fininshed product.

And there you have it! Crackle paint job!

The crab legs were delicious!

I've been very busy and didn't even wake Poppy!

Easy Cutter!

Well the guys weren't happy when I let them know we had to stop at Hobby Lobby. But I had a 40% off coupon and there was no stopping me. I did hurry though. I found the last Ultimate Easy Cutter they had on the rack! Lucky me! I've been wanting one forever but they were $27.99! Way too much I thought, but with my coupon I got $11.20 off! Woo Hoo! Can't wait to use them!

No luck on finding a car though! Justin's gonna look on Auto Traders.com. But the crab legs will be yummy tomorrow. Got a whole five pounds for $20 bucks! That's almost half the price they usually cost.
